Industrial crusher automation and control

A crusher that starts abruptly or fails to detect foreign material in time generates accelerated wear, costly jams and unplanned stoppages that halt production. As the official Emotron distributor in Central America, E3 Solutions installs Emotron variable frequency drives, softstarters and power monitors on crushers in Guatemala so the machine adapts to the material, starts in a controlled manner and detects problems before they become breakdowns.

The challenge: protecting the crusher and keeping production running

Crushers subject motors and mechanics to enormous and highly variable loads. The size and hardness of incoming material change constantly; if the motor does not respond, the machine works at suboptimal efficiency or becomes overloaded. Direct-on-line starts at full voltage generate inrush currents several times the rated current, subjecting windings, bearings, couplings and gearboxes to extreme stress. Foreign material — a piece of metal, an exceptionally hard rock — can jam the machine in seconds and cause serious mechanical damage. Without power monitoring, these events go unnoticed until the damage occurs. The result is costly maintenance, extended downtime and expensive spare parts.

  • Inefficiency and energy waste from fixed-speed operation without adapting to material
  • Extreme mechanical stress on direct starts that accelerates equipment wear
  • Risk of jamming and serious mechanical damage from foreign material entry
  • Costly maintenance interruptions and unplanned stoppages that affect production

The Emotron solution

The Emotron solution

The Emotron VFX variable frequency drive continuously adapts motor speed to the size and type of material entering the crusher and to feeder variations, enabling significant energy savings and maintaining optimum production without overloading the machine. The TSA softstarter reduces mechanical stress through gradual acceleration and deceleration, incorporates built-in braking without the need for separate mechanical brake systems, and lowers installation cost by allowing fuses and cables to be sized for lower currents. The M20 shaft power monitor detects overload and underload across the entire speed range without external sensors, preventing damage from foreign material and activating protections before serious breakdowns occur. E3 Solutions designs, installs and commissions the complete solution in Guatemala.

Key features

Key features of crusher control

The functions that enable industrial crushers to operate with higher efficiency, less wear and better protection against unexpected events.

  • Speed adaptation to material

The drive adjusts motor speed to the type and size of incoming material and to feeder variations, maintaining optimal production rate and avoiding overloads without wasting energy.

  • Jam protection and foreign material detection

The shaft power monitor detects any anomaly in mechanical load before it causes a jam or structural damage, stopping the machine in a controlled and protected manner.

  • Soft start with built-in braking

The TSA softstarter accelerates and decelerates the motor gradually, eliminating current spikes that damage the mechanics. Built-in braking removes the need for additional mechanical brake systems.

  • Lower installation cost

By limiting starting current, the softstarter allows fuses, cables and transformers to be sized for lower values, reducing the cost of the installation's electrical infrastructure.
